Location: Turkey is a transcontinental country, located mostly on Anatolia in Western Asia and on East Thrace in South-Eastern Europe.
Major cities: Ankara is the capital of Turkey, while Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir are the 3 major cities. Meantime Antalya is the tourism capital due to its long beaches.
Climate: Turkey is a unique country that you can feel four different seasons at the same time… The Aegean and the Mediterranean coasts of the country have a temperate climate, with temperatures generally above 30 °C (86 °F) in the summer days. The Black Sea coasts of the country have a temperate climate with warm, wet summers and cool, wet winters. Central Anatolian part of Turkey have a continental climate with severe winters that snow lies on the ground at least 120 days of the year.
Payment options: Major credit cards (Visa, Master, etc.) are accepted in big cities however you may need to carry some cash with you. US Dollars and Euros are widely accepted, so you can easily exchange money.
Drinking water: The city water is chlorinated for sanitation reasons, so it is safe but does not taste well. Therefore it can be used for brushing teeth or rinsing month but drinking. Besides bottled water (still water) is very cheap in Turkey and is guaranteed safe. Additionally, if you want to get sparkling water, you have to ask for mineral water.
Smoking & Drinking: It is legal to smoke and drink alcohol in Turkey but it is not legal to sell them to the ones under 18 years old. So if you are above 18 years old, you can easily find cigarettes in markets. Smoking is not permitted only in flights, tour busses, public transportation, and indoor public places. Also, there is no restriction on the use of alcohol in Turkey for the ones above 18 years old.
Electricity: Turkey operates on 220 volts, 50 Hz, with round-prong European-style plugs that fit into recessed wall sockets. Only some of the five stars properties would offer converters to their customers. It is favourable for you to bring your own converter with you.
Public transportation: Public busses, trains, subway trains, rapid-transit-buses (metrobus), sea busses, ferries, kind of shared taxis (minibus) and private taxis are used for city transportation in Turkey.

Working hours in Turkey are between 09.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays. On the weekends and national holidays, banks and public enterprises are closed. On the first day of religious holidays in addition to the banks and public enterprises, all shops are closed as well.
